OSCEOLA POLLUTES

Bill Lane’s

Scorched Earth

A county commissioner for district 5 in Osceola County, Bill Lane was the 1st commissioner in decades to only serve one term.

He was elected during the at-large fiasco perpetrated on the citizens of Osceola County by the very strong good-old-boy network.

Fortunately for Osceola the United States Justice Department suggested that Osceola go to single member districts, and the very easy to get along with commissioners jumped right on that suggestion. That is after a little discussion in court to the tune of several million dollars. After that Bill didn’t make it passed the primary.

Bill Lane had a unique perspective, you see once your elected your job is to serve your buddies not your constituents.

There in lies the rub, you see if the United States Justice Department hadn’t screwed everything up, Bill would not be leaving come December 2008. But they did and he is.

Anyway, Bill’s buddy had a problem, you see his friend Willie had a swale in front of his house and that swale had just been put in and his buddy didn’t like it. He claimed it was unsafe.

This swale was paid for  with private funding. Click here to view Photo's

Bill and his buddy thought that it would be much better to bury pipe and pave the road.

In a time of economic crisis Osceola tax payers are paying to do all of this work for Bill's buddy

And run the storm water run-off from a septic tank drain field (owned by another of), Yeah you guessed it, Bill’s buddies, right into Alligator Lake.

No problem lets get Osceola’s drainage specialist, the one that specializes in pushing untreated storm water  into lakes in Osceola County. Read the companion story Bud Hutton. Richard Earp is Osceola’s drainage expert?

Richard Earp left Bud Hutton with a mess one lake up the chain, and Bud’s been trying to get him to correct it for 8 years.

But before Bill left those swales had to go.

Since they laid off so many employees they've got plenty of money.

Richard went to work. Richard Earp told Jared Jeferdson at South Florida Water Management in Orlando that The county would be

" Doing improvements to a swale"
